How to Treat Pyorrhoea (Bleeding Gums) Naturally?

What is Pyorrhoea?

Pyorrhoea is an inflammatory disease. It affects the periodontium (the tissues that surround and support the teeth). After dental decay, it is the second most common disease. It's a slow process, caused due to bacterial action that colonizes on the teeth and the space between the teeth and gums known as sulcus. Due to bacterial actions the acids, enzymes, and toxins have created that decay and erode the teeth structures which support the teeth (gums and bone surrounding the teeth). The alveolar bone around the teeth is progressively lost due to pyorrhoea, and if treatment is not done it leads to the loosening and subsequent loss of teeth. It may lead to loss of teeth. So deposits or tartar on the teeth is the single common factor for pyorrhoea.

What are the Causes of Pyorrhoea?

  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • High sugary diet along with carbohydrate diet
  • Result of gingivitis
  • Irritation of mouth tissues, allergies and incorrect brushing of teeth
  • Blood disorders
  • Indigestion and hyperacidity leads to poor oral hygiene that causes pyorrhea
  • Use of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs that leads to pyorrhea

What are the Signs & Symptoms of Pyorrhoea?

  • Loosening of teeth
  • Bleeding and redness of gums
  • Inflammation of gums
  • Gum pockets
  • Pus discharge
  • Bad breath
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Receding gums
  • Bone erosion

What are the Risk Factors of Pyorrhoea?

During pyorrhoea when there is accumulation of harmful bacteria in blood it increases the risk of different health conditions mentioned below:

  • Pyorrhoea cause myocardial infarction (Heart attack) because the bacteria in the blood causes aggregation of platelets which results in clot formation in blood vessels (atherosclerosis).
  • Brain stroke or cerebrovascular stroke due to atherosclerosis may occur due to pyorrhoea.
  • Increased bacteria may cause memory loss, depression and poor circulation and other brain disorders in persons over 60 years of age.
  • Accumulation of harmful bacteria in blood due to pyorrhea may cause cancer.
  • Diabetic patients should have a check as it is difficult to maintain sugar levels of a diabetic patient with pyorrhea.

How to Diagnosis Pyorrhoea?

  • Redness and bleeding of gums while brushing or biting into hard food.
  • Gum inflammation after scaling/cleaning.
  • Progressively gap between teeth.
  • Halitosis or bad breathe and metallic taste in mouth whole day.
  • Gum recession.
  • Deep pockets.
  • Loose teeth in later stages.

Preventive Measure that should be taken in Pyorrhoea

  • Effective brushing technique as well as flossing to maintain proper oral hygiene.
  • Avoid synthetic chemical mouthwashes. As they absorb through the mouth and are toxic and may prevent the formation of healthy bacterial biome in the mouth.

Ayurvedic View

According to Ayurveda gum and teeth related problems are due to vitiated rasa and rakta dhatus. Impaired digestion produce toxins that mix with rasa and rakta dhatu. These toxins cause pyorrhoea.

Herbal Remedies for Pyorrhoea by Planet Ayurveda

1. Gum Care Powder

Planet Ayurveda offers an excellent combination for all gum and teeth related problems. Proper oral hygiene has to be maintained for the health of gums and teeth. It is used as tooth powder. This powder removes dental stains and dental filth. Its regular use prevent tooth deformities and increase lifespan of teeth. Gum care powder is very useful in treating symptoms of pyorrhea gum pockets, pus discharge mouth ulcers, abscesses, receding gums, and bone erosion.

Usage: Massage your teeth and gums gently with 3-6 gm powder. Rinse the mouth with lukewarm water after 2-3 minutes.

2. Coral Calcium Complex

It provides calcium in a natural way, thus maintains optimum calcium levels in the body, which helps to maintain Healthy bones, muscles and nerves and prevents bone loss, as well as good for shiny teeth. It quickly improves bone strength.

Dose: 1 capsule two time daily, after meals with plain water.

3. Kaishore Guggul

It is mainly having antibiotic properties. It helps in relieving pain, swelling and sensitivity problems of teeth.

Ingredients:-

  • Guduchi herb (Tinospora cordifolia): The herb maintains inflammation.
  • Ginger (Zingiber officinale): It helps to relieve pain & inflammation.
  • Amalaki (Emblica officinalis): It has anti-bacterial properties.
  • Black pepper (Piper nigrum): Helpful in reducing pain. It is effective herb that helps in reduction of swelling and inflammation.
  • Long pepper (Piper longum): Constitute anti-inflammatory property.
  • Arjuna (Terminalia chebula): It helps in controlling bleeding.
  • Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica): It has styptic property which is useful in arresting bleeding.
  • Guggul (resin) (Commiphora mukul): This resin reduces pain and inflammation.
  • Red Physic Nut (Baliospermum montanum): It is anti-oxidant in nature.
  • Indian Jalap (Ipomoea turpethum): Controls bleeding from gum.
  • Vidanga (Embelia ribes): The antioxidant nature of this herb removes toxin.

Dose: 1-2 tablets of kaishore guggul twice a day, after meals taken with plain water.

4. Arjun Saar

The bark of Arjun tree is beneficial in arresting bleeding. Arjuna has higher quantities of calcium which is useful for healthy teeth.

Gargles should be done with "Arjun Saar" if person is facing disease like pyorrhea or any other gum disease. Arjuna properties helps in improving quality of teeth, providing strength to teeth and treat the mouth ulcers.

Dose: Take 20-30 ml of Arjun saar with equal amount of water and do gargle twice daily.

Home Remedies for Pyorrhoea

  • Use Ayurvedic tooth powders for prevention of pyorrhoea.
  • Take 3-4 black raisins with water and a pinch of rock salt at bedtime. This helps to manage pyorrhoea.
  • Massage your gums with licorice root powder. Add 1 tsp. of honey. It is good in pyorrhea.
  • Use rock salt, add pomegranate powder or camphor powder and rub this on gums to improve oral hygiene and prevents pyorrhea.
  • Drink juice of carrot and spinach to get relief from pyorrhoea.
  • Gargling with lukewarm sesame oil or decoctions of Triphala or some other Ayurvedic herbs prevents infections in oral cavity and even help in managing pyorrhoea.
  • Applying sesame oil or mustard oil on gums and teeth reduces bacterial growth in oral cavity and prevents pyorrhoea.
